40% of the world's population of 6.6 billion lives on less than $2 per day. Lack of sufficient disposable income means that families often have inadequate nutrition, poor health care, low education levels, and/or poor access to clean water. A community consisting predominately of poor families can do little to invest in infrastructure to make these basics available. As a result many families either go without or become dependent on government or foreign aid. This is a difficult cycle to break, but tested poverty solutions exist. The problem is that very few have realized impact on a large scale. As a result poverty is increasing at a much faster rate than the reach and impact of the solutions.
In most cases where a solution has been tested and shown affective, providers build their own delivery channel, but then become limited by funding and logistics. Instead of 50 organizations building 50 channels, Desta is building a channel that will help all organizations scale their impact. Desta has created the infrastructure to reach rural communities and will continue to identify cost saving and income generating products and services which it will make available in rural communities. Desta intends to empower local rural families to save and earn more through its identified tested solutions. Greater family income will allow for more choices and means to access what is most important to them.
Desta is committed to collaboration and listening to and learning from its partners and customers. Together we are building a collaborative platform to make available cost saving and income generating products and services to the communities that can benefit the most.
