Since inception, Desta Global has been in the agriculture sector serving as a catalyst between the manufacturers / suppliers and Agro-store owners by providing better reach & market for the agri-inputs.
Exploding Internet usage in Rural India
Rural India is adopting the internet at a pace matched by urban India. The healthy growth in internet users in India has been driven by rural Indians, currently standing at an impressive 37% as of December 2014 (Source: ‘Internet in India 2014’ report by IAMAI and IMRB International). They are now increasingly accessing internet either on their mobile phones or computers.
Keeping in mind the penetration, growth and rising usage of technology along with the acceptance of e-commerce in most industries, we have recognised that there is a huge scope for taking our business model online. We are launching a B2B marketplace in order to increase the benefits to all the stakeholders in the Desta ecosystem – the farmers, government, social organisations, agri-input dealers, agri-input manufacturers, distributors, service providers and professionals at all levels in the agricultural sector.
Agro-Stores as Opinion Leaders
While all stakeholders play important roles, at the grassroots level, the veritable link to the final consumer i.e. the farmer is the Agro-store. They serve as opinion leaders, influencers, and confidants in the community because of their up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in the agricultural sector. They are the go-to advisors for season based planning as well as speedy decisions in the possibility of unforeseen events. Interestingly, they perform the above function as they are the primary source of agri-input product supply as also credit related services. Undeniably, they are key members of the agricultural ecosystem and we at Desta work with them closely to ensure full support and continued involvement for the benefit of farmers.
We are building a platform which shall serve as a vehicle to bring together qualified and validated suppliers and agro-stores for increasing the efficiency of the agri-input supply chain. Suppliers (sellers) of all sizes can display, list, promote and sell their products on the portal to a focused target audience in the form of a network of Agri-store owners (buyers). Buyers can utilize the portal to access a large variety of products and place orders based on their requirement in a streamlined manner at the click of a button.
This innovation will fill a serious gap in the market and make a big impact upon the way stakeholders function.
